Lithgow Fire and Rescue station officer Steven Houghton said that it was all about offering an extra resource to Lithgow.
"This level of training is the same as the VRA [Volunteer Rescue Association] so we can work with them and back them up if needed," he said.
The rescue training has taken place each weekend and multiple nights throughout the week.
"It has been a big commitment for everyone involved so we are all happy to finally be done," he said.
For the final assessment the fire fighters had to go to Welch's Highway Smash Repairs to participate in different rescue simulations.
"We had two instructors put cars on their side and then used human dummies to make it look like people were trapped or impaled," he said.
"So without seeing the scenario we had to go in and prioritise the casualties, because we are about preserving life first, then create an extraction plan all while making sure that we were safe because there could be risk of fire with a car."
While the group took part in multiple scenarios, the two instructors were taking notes on how the group was performing.
"We couldn't have done it without Welch's, he cleared an area, moved and cut up cars for us to work with all for nothing," he said.
"It's hard to get this kind of practice, so any work with rescue is invaluable."
As well as completing their rescue training, Lithgow Fire and Rescue was selected to install new rescue equipment into their truck.
"Every Fire and Rescue truck has some basic items that can be used for rescues, but now we have even better and more efficient equipment that will help us," he said.
To get to know the local VRA group, Fire and Rescue held a meet and greet and barbecue at the fire station along with the local ambulance service.
"It was a chance to show each other our appliances, and just get to know each other because we do have to work closely with each other in high pressure situations," he said.
