Whether you are sitting back, lazily casting a line or out on a boat looking for the adrenaline rush of reeling in a whopper, fishing is something that everyone of all ages can take part in. To help celebrate this popular pastime, the NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) will be running their amazing NSW Gone Fishing Day and Wallerawang's Lake Wallace will once again host a fantastic event this year on Sunday, October 20.

Secretary of the Wallerawang Branch of the Central Acclimatisation Society, Ray Tang said it doesn't matter if you haven't fished before or if you're the keenest of anglers, Gone Fishing Day is the perfect chance for everyone to get out on the water. "It really is a great day out for anyone who wants to try their hand at fishing," he said. "Gone Fishing Day is an Australia-wide event and the aim of the day really is to not only get people involved in fishing but also to teach them about sustainable fishing and looking after the environment".
Despite some bad weather last year, over 500 people joined in the Lake Wallace event, and Ray said with a beautiful sunny day forecast for this year, they are expecting a big crowd. "The great thing about this event is that it is family friendly and doesn't matter how much experience you have or what equipment you own, which means anyone can join in," he said. "We encourage anyone who has their own equipment to bring it along but for younger kids we have some amazing gift packs of that include rods and reels to help get them out there getting some bites, and there is always some spare equipment that can be borrowed".
