Both the junior and senior competitions will get a crack on this Saturday, after the draw for the seniors competition was finalised on Wednesday, October 16. No turfs will be in action for the start of the season but, following the completion of irrigation works, they are expected to come online. Wallerawang Oval will not be available for use this season.
The seniors competition will be divided into three grades. First and second grades will play as a pool until the semi-finals, when the top teams will go on to contest a first grade finals series. The bottom teams will play off for second grade honours.
This year there will also be a third grade competition.
First and second grade draw for Saturday, October 19 is: Hartley v Portland at MJ1; La Salle Hornets v Valley at Glanmire 2; Lidsdale v Lithgow Cougars at G4. In third grade: Hampton v Valley at Hampton; La Salle v Lithgow Cougars at Watsford.
In the juniors, Lithgow will field five teams to contest the Bathurst regional competition.
Seventy 'junior blasters' will also be in action each week starting on October 30.
The action starts this weekend, the Under 10's taking on RUCC at Bathurst, the Under 12's playing at home against Bathurst All Saints, Under 13's playing All Saints in Lithgow and the Under 14's taking on St Pat's Blue in Bathurst. The Opens have the bye.
The club will be hoping to emulate last year's success, in which three teams made the district grand finals.
Lithgow District Junior Cricket Club's Mark Wren thanked the sponsors of this year's junior season, Club Lithgow, LJ Hooker, Lean and Bennett Toyota, the local CFMEU and Centennial Coal.
