Glenda Anthes and Cheryl Schram have become the 2019 winners of the Ruth Harries selected pairs competition defeating Margaret Lang and Paula McGaulley 24-11.
McGaully and Thwaites started in brilliant fashion with Thwaites being one of the best draw bowlers in the club holding a slender lead 4-1 on the forth end .
It was then newcomer Anthes who showed a lot of promise at being a top line bowler. She started to find her rhythm and played some beautiful draw bowls and with Schram winning the next nine ends, they went to a very comfortable lead 23-6.
McGaulley and Thwaites never gave up and registered a four on the third last end but it was Anthes and Schram who were the winners on the day .
The Workies women have had major successes in the last two weeks winning the Windsor Open against metropolitan teams. This team consisted of Cynthia Thornton, Lesley Townsend and Cheryl Schram.
That same team with the addition of Judy Kennedy also won the Ruby Denning Shield at Lawson.
The workman's club bowlers are holding the Versatility 6s at the end of October and the Western District two day carnival in November. The strong St Johns Park will be participating, making this carnival a very prestigious and competitive event.
The women and men are also competing for a very valuable trophy against each other in a shirts versus skirts competition. Lots of prizes will be on offer and it will be a fun day with all money raised going towards Briony Sheather.
