Cr Maree Statham put forward a notice of motion for Council to extend the official closing time of the Lithgow Library from 6pm to 6.30pm, for a trial period of six months.
"On many occasions I have been approached to lobby for extended hours for the Lithgow Library," she said.
"I don't use the library at that hour of the day but I know there's been over 30 people contact me to see if it's possible to have the hours extended. It's only 30 minutes I think it's pretty fair."
She said out of all three libraries in the LGA, Lithgow was the only location where she had been asked to extend hours.
"There are many people who use the Lithgow, Wallerawang and Portland libraries, I think it would be good to accommodate more people after work between 6pm and 6.30 [at Lithgow]," she said.

Cr Statham said she realised it was 30 minutes more and council staff had to be considered but it was a reasonable ask.
Cr Cassandra Coleman and Cr Steve Ring raised their concerns on the management of council staff.
"It's an extra half an hour, we need to understand how that affects the staff and how it will go through," Cr Coleman said.
"I can't support it, there's the issue of the staff, funding... it should have been put forward when we discuss our budgeting and we could have looked at what can or can not be," Cr Ring said.
Council's director of People and Services Michael McGrath said the main issue was funding.
"We'd have to see what savings we could find, we'd also have to look at rosters... additional staff, whether that be casual or part-time," he said.
Cr Statham was out numbered in the final decision to keep hours as they are.
