The Bureau of Meteorology predicted a warmer, drier spring and so far they've been right.

During September, Bathurst received 46.6 millimetres which was right on the city's long term average for this month.

But the news wasn't so good for other locations in the region.

Dubbo's rainfall was way down on the average of 42.8mm, with just 11.0mm received during the month.

By comparison Mudgee, Lithgow and Orange received a significant rainfall during September, but all three locations were down on the long term average.

Mudgee received 42.0mm (average is 54.6mm), Lithgow had 51.5mm (average of 58.9mm) while Orange recorded 58.8 (down on the average of 79.1mm).

Nyngan was the driest location in the region with just 4.8mm of rain during September and this was followed closely by Forbes (7.2mm), Oberon (9.3mm) and Young (9.4mm).

The Bureau of Meteorology's climate outlook for October to December predicts the warm, dry weather will likely continue until the end of the year.

Senior climatologist Dr Andrew Watkins said October had a high chance of being drier than average for the entire region.

"The temperature outlook for October to December suggests the days are very likely to remain warmer than average," he said.

"This also means there's an increased chance of early heatwaves and windy days will see very high fire danger."
