A man has suffered a severe head injury after he was allegedly struck with a piece of timber and robbed of his wallet and phone on Tuesday, September 24.

Between 6-8pm the 41 year-old man was allegedly robbed after leaving a licensed premise at Lithgow.
The man was taken to Lithgow Hospital for treatment to a fractured skull, before being transferred to Nepean Hospital for emergency surgery to the severe injury.
Following inquiries, officers attached to Chifley Police District arrested a man and woman travelling on the Great Western Highway at about 2pm yesterday Thursday, September 26.

They were taken to Lithgow Police Station where the woman was later released.
The man, 26, was charged with robbery with wounding.
He was refused bail and appeared before Lithgow Local Court on Friday, September 27.
Investigations are continuing.
