Eighty-three year old Shirley Vought was found guilty of negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm in relation to the crash in Lithgow Local Court on September 5.
The court heard the car and bike were travelling in the same direction away from the plaza car park at about 5.45pm when the car clipped the bike as it attempted to move into the outside lane towards Hassans Walls Road.
The 48-year-old cyclist was propelled backwards into the bonnet, hitting the nearside front windscreen pillar and then the roadway.
He suffered a deep laceration to his right half, a head injury (there was significant damage to his helmet) and other injuries including fractures to his cervical spine. Witnesses called triple-zero.
He was airlifted to Westmead Hospital to undergo treatment, including surgery for his leg injury.
While Vought originally stopped at the scene, she left a short time later and was identified as the driver the following day.
She was convicted of the offence and fined $500.
