Fixed wing aircraft and multiple Rural Fire Service units responded to the fire on Quarry Road at about 12.15pm.
The quickly changing grass and bush fire has burned approximately 75 hectares. Due to the rocky terrain, which is difficult for crews to access, as well as a lack of readily available water, the fire has been contained within a perimeter created by a bulldozer track, RFS Chifley-Lithgow zone operational officer Brett Taylor said.
"We're waiting for the fire to come to us," he said.
Crews remained onsite on Saturday and Sunday, with patrols continuing on Monday.
It was a busy afternoon for the local rural fire brigades, with a report of a bushfire at Marrangaroo, just behind the correctional centre, at about 2.30pm. Some of Marrangaroo's crews remained at Ben Bullen, while another attended the fire.
Marrangaroo RFS's Adam Sharwood said crews remained onsite at the Marrangaroo fire for three to four hours, while crews remained at Ben Bullen late into the evening.
Crews are also continuing to keep a close eye on Lidsdale's fire, which continues to burn underground. Patrols are visiting the site every day as flare ups could continue for weeks in the right conditions, Mr Taylor said.
