As a resident of View Street, Lidsdale, may I express my heartfelt gratitude for the splendid, if not heroic work of the Rural Fire Service.

The fire started right on the corner of View Street and the Castlereagh Highway just before midday Friday.
I came back in the late afternoon to find the fire had grown from a grass fire to a fearsome bush fire and it was now heading for my home above the old Commonwealth Coal Mine.
It came to within 70 metres or so but, thanks to the valiant efforts of the men and women of the Rural Fire Service, it was stopped just in time.
I and my home survived intact from a fierce inferno which seemed intent on reaching my place.
Thank you as well to all the different brigades that descended on us and thankyou to the state and local governments who fund and support such a valuable service to our community.
God bless our firies.
