Rainbow trout were also released on Tuesday, September 10 with 300 going into Lake Lyell and 200 for Lake Wallace as part of the trout allocation program.
Wallerawang branch Central Acclimatisation Society (CAS) secretary Ray Tang said the surplus yearling stock came from the Dutton Trout Hatchery in Ebor.
"The Fisheries dropped them off and members of the Wallerawang CAS and locals get involved and help with the trout droppings," he said.
He said the two government hatcheries - Dutton and Gaden, stocked fish for the whole state and would liaison with the local CAS to know where to put the fish.

"Basically we are their feet on the ground to tell them where there is water and show them where the best spot is to put the fish," he said.
Mr Tang also said there were plans to stock Lake Pillans and Thompson's Creek Dam throughout the year. He said it was exciting to get new fish.
"It's great fun and good for our recreational fishing. Rec fishing is a good outdoor activity for locals who don't want to travel too far out of town to fish," he said.
He also wanted to remind locals Gone Fishing Day is coming up on October, 20.
"We've got some exciting things planned so watch this space," he said.
