Every year at the Daffodils at Rydal Festival, a big shout out goes to the Piggott girls for the beautiful quilts they make as the main raffle prize.

Of course, it's been a while since the Piggott girls were the Piggott girls. These days they are known Jenny McKenzie, Rhonda Kelly, Sandra Haley and Gillian McInnes.
In the early days of the Daffodils at Rydal, which raises funds for charitable causes in the Lithgow region every year, the organising committee was hunting for a raffle prize.
Sandra, a quilter, came on board to offer a hand-made quilt as a prize, with the help of her sisters in supplying materials and (when needed) giving a helping hand.
Each quilt they have made has featured a daffodil theme. In years when they have not been able to find daffodil prints, the daffodils were embroidered on. Needless to say, on those occasions, it was all hands on deck.
"Daffodil material is hard to get sometimes, so if we see it, we get it straight away," Sandra said.
Several of the ladies were born in Rydal, and their family connection goes back several generations. Despite moving away, they maintain their close links to Rydal.
Three of the ladies were on hand on Tuesday, September 3, as the Daffodils in Rydal festival was officially launched at Greg Featherstone Park.
