IT was publicity that we could have done without. In fact, it was downright embarrassing.

IN ABC TV's popular 'Escape From The City' program last week the focus was on rural lifestyle properties around our region.
One of the properties featured was in Kanimbla Valley and another at Mt Wilson and viewers were told that the most convenient location for shopping and other services was Lithgow.
So there we were on national TV with the camera focussing on probably the two tattiest structures in the CBD - the old TAFE building and the neglected upper facade above the Main Street entrance to the railway interchange.
Even worse it was indicated that the latter was a Lithgow Council building, an obvious mistake with the outdated sign that somehow has been allowed to remain all these years against a peeling backdrop.
The sins of our absentee landlords (and some locals) continue to be foisted on our community.
At least Blackheath and Leura received more sympathetic treatment.
Coming clean?
ARE we seeing a long overdue new era in footpath cleaning now emerging? Council has finally acquired a new footpath cleaning machine to replace its previous ineffective relic and it's expected to be also applied to pavements in Wang and Portland.

Its launch period will be a particular challenge with footpaths all over town filthy from the NBN excavation residue and the lack of cleansing rain. Most people will be happy if it just gets rid of our disgusting pigeon poo and leakages from worn out litter bins.
Bogan behaviour
IT'S time the 'top table' at Lithgow Council meetings adopted a hard line on people who continue to chatter and commentate in the public gallery. It not only disrupts the amenity for those genuinely interested in what is being debated it's rude bogan behaviour. Nothing new in this; it's been going on for years with only token efforts to stop the rot. Time to wave the big stick, Ray.
