A weather warning has been issued for parts of Illawarra, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands and Snowy Mountains.
Northwesterly winds are expected to increase over southeast NSW this evening as a cold front approaches from the west.
For areas below 1900 metres, damaging winds averaging 60km/h with gust reaching 90km/h are possible for parts of the Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands and Illawarra during Sunday evening and into early Monday.
Locations which may be affected include Lithgow, Katoomba, Oberon, Thredbo, Nerriga, High Range and Bowral.
The State Emergency Service has advised people should: Move vehicles under cover or away from trees; Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony; Keep at least 8m away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences; Report fallen power lines to Endeavour Energy (131 003) or as shown on your power bill.
