As part of ongoing discussions with the Roads and Maritime Services and the Department of Education, Lithgow City Council said in a statement it had become aware of safety concerns within the Lake Wallace site.
According to council, during peak pick-up and drop-off times the area directly opposite the school became congested with pedestrians and vehicles.
Pedestrian access will be maintained while vehicle access will be restricted to ensure the safety of children and their parents crossing Barton Avenue during peak periods.
Aside from these measures, council engineers have proposed more permanent solutions to this matter with additional parking areas being considered within Lake Wallace.
According to a Department of Education spokesperson, parents could park in a designated area that has clear vision and is not restricted by dense foliage.
"The collective decision is in the best interest of student and community safety," the spokesperson said.
She said there was adequate room for parking at Lake Wallace and, with a school crossing supervisor to walk the students across to the school, safety protocols must be followed.
"It is important that parents walk the students to the crossing supervisor," the spokesperson said.

Any future works will be subject to consultation between council, the Department of Education, RMS and Energy Australia which owns the site.
It is requested that all users of Lake Wallace, particularly those who pick up and drop off children to Wallerawang Public School, respect the imposed restrictions for the safety of all pedestrians.
