Mountain Cruizers Car Club president Stephen O'Reilly said the donation was on behalf of the Sheather family who were a part of the club.

"Our member's wife came down with cancer so we went to Can Assist because we wanted to donate as a whole rather than to one individual person on behalf of the Sheather family," he said.

Mr O'Reilly said the club planned to make the donation an ongoing thing.

"Every six months we'll try donate something and we will hold car shows to raise money," he said.

He said it was important to help the community affected by cancer as they needed all the help they could get.

"We might just be some car enthusiasts and anyone can join our club but with a few older members it's becoming inevitable that someone eventually gets touched by the big C, so we want to help our community," he said.

Can Assist president and Lithgow City Councillor Maree Statham thanked Mountain Cruizers Car Club for the donation.

"Each and every one of us [at Can Assist] is so grateful, the funds will be appreciated by those affected by cancer living in the Lithgow LGA and will help us assist someone in the many ways that we help," she said.
