Portland Colts took on the favoured CSU Mungoes in the major semis on July 27 at the university grounds but were hammered down to a 64-0 loss, which led the Mungoes to secure a grand final spot.
In the minor semis the Bears took on Orange Barbarians which resulted in a 60-0 defeat pushing them out of the competition.
Despite losing the major semi final, the Colts were handed another opportunity to play in the grand final when they met with the Barbs on August 3, but the pressure was on and it was Orange who booked their spot in the New Era Cup grand final with a convincing 44-8 win over Portland.
