The roos are out and about in urban areas in possibly record numbers and one large male was killed by a dog, or dogs, in proximity to the playground in Lithgow's Queen Elizabeth Park over the weekend.
The attacking dogs have ripped into the unfortunate roo with all too obvious savagery, inflicting horrific injuries, particularly around the head area.
The bloodied remains were found by an early morning (restrained) dog walker on Sunday morning, August 4, who alerted Council's emergency number.
"Just hope the roo was able to rip into its attackers before they brought it down," she said.
Officers responded quickly to remove the grisly scene before the first playground arrivals.
Any dog big enough to drag down a buck kangaroo would have no trouble with an adult or child and after that taste of blood it's a sombre warning to local dog owners.
Recent deadly dog attacks around Australia have been well documented.
Perhaps it's time for substantial penalty increases for anyone allowing their dogs to roam free.
It is already an offence that is all too often ignored.
Restoration is welcome
ADDING to the country's NBN bill, contractors are currently replacing Lithgow's CBD pavers removed during the cabling process, and the community at large will say hallelujah to that.
Some sections have had patchwork and sometimes crumbling temporary fill for well over a year, not a good luck for our 'revitalised' shopping strip. So the current work, still with a long way to go, is very welcome even if is another ongoing but unavoidable disruption.
It appears to be a job well done and just a pity it won't be extended to other sections of footpaths so obviously in need of maintenance. It will be more of a challenge when they get around to restoring roads that were uprooted, particularly sections of Bridge and Tank Street
The background blast
IS your TV or big screen movie experienced being ruined to an extent by overpowering background music score? Increasingly in all forms of that medium the continuing theme music is so loud that it blurs the actors' dialogue, making for uncomfortable viewing.
Not very professional and it's time for our ever expanding troupe of home grown stars to take a stance on this. They surely don't want to be upstaged by a music score. Some of the directors clearly need to fine tune their editing skills.
Nearly done
REGULAR readers will be well aware that the column is fan of the great work being done by Council on its cycle/walkway along Farmers Creek. We're now pleased to report that the nifty new bridge over Farmers Creek downstream of Sandford Avenue is nearing completion. So we're wondering if there's going to be a ribbon cutting ceremony and who gets to do the honours. Any volunteers?
