"It was quick, it was fast," vice captain Samantha Martin said.
The blue and blacks headed out onto the turf with a young team and dominated letting no goals in for the first two quarters, but when fatigue set in and plenty of pressure from the fit opposition, Zig Zag were left to crumble and it was the Feds who went back to the sheds with a 4-0 victory.
"We dominated that first half but our fitness let us down in the second," Martin said.
Despite the result, she said compared to last year the score was a big improvement, going from 10-nil losses to four.
"It's a big improvement for our squad, we've come a long way. Our side has been coming out stronger every week.
"We had a good game today it wasn't the ultimate result but, the Feds are a strong side, they always are and they dominate the season.
"Feds deserved the win, they worked hard for it," she said.
"We just overturned too many balls to them, we had the opportunities but we just couldn't put it away."
Martin said standouts for the match were captain Jana Winnard in the centre half and Halle Roberts on the inner.
"Jenna played outstanding in attack and defence and so did Halle, she was all over the place and she did amazing," she said.

Confederates coach Fiona Reith said she expected to come to Lithgow and get a good game.
"When we play Zig Zag it is a very even game for whatever reason but I said to the girls they had to stay composed and if they played their game the results would come and that's what ended up happening in the second half.
"Zig Zag always give it to us, they play right to the end but we were very conscious of that and we needed to respect how well they can play and we needed to play better," she said.
For the Feds it was Sally Uttley who found the back of the net twice along with Eva Reith-Snare and India Draper in the last 30 minutes.
Reith said she was happy with the 4-0 result considering a few injuries in the last couple of weeks had disrupted the team.
"We ran with the basic 11 here today and we got Lilly Erskine to come in from Dubbo, I thought it was a really good team effort.
"We also didn't have a short corner with us defensively so that's a really good result showing we had a lot of the play," she said.
"This was a really big game for us for more than the obvious reason that we had to make sure we win, and we did win and we won it well."
