A Portland man has been fined $1000 for hunting game without a licence.
Aubrey Graham McDermott, 25, was found guilty of the offence in Lithgow Local Court on June 20.
The offence occurred at Bylong on March 10. Patrolling police saw spotlights on Woollys Road, Upper Bylong, just after midnight. The vehicle, which had dogs on board, was pulled over and charges laid.
A former Lithgow Correctional Centre inmate has been sentenced to six months in jail after he was found guilty of assaulting a corrections officer and damaging property in Lithgow Local Court on July 4.
The court heard Kyle Burkett, 20, who is now an inmate at Long Bay serving a sentence for aggravated robbery, was upset on July 30, 2018, that he was being moved from his cell and losing privileges due to a charge which had been laid against him for making a weapon, a shiv, within the jail.
He came out of the cell swinging a bag, which connected with a prison officer's arm and spilled its contents on the floor. He picked up tins of tuna from the floor, the police report to court stated, and started throwing them at the officer, who took cover behind a concrete pillar.
Burkett also threw a toaster, which missed the officer.
A Lithgow man was found guilty of resisting an officer in the execution of their duty when he tried to prevent the search of a vehicle on March 20.
Shane David Christie, 40, was placed on a 12 month community corrections order in Lithgow Local Court on July 4, as well as being fined $400 for driving without carrying his licence and $350 for possession of a prohibited drug.
Police pulled over the vehicle Christie was driving at about 3am on March 20 as patrolling officers believed it was travelling faster than the speed limit. On being told officers wanted to search the vehicle, Christie argued with police before exiting the vehicle, shouting and cursing at the police. He was arrested. A small amount of drugs, including 28 grams of cannabis and small bags of clear crystals, were found in the car.
A Bowenfels man was found guilty of two counts of driving without a valid licence in Lithgow Local Court on July 4. Ethan Douglas Harpley, 21, was pulled over on April 29 and May 1, driving without a valid licence. The learner driver was placed on a 12 month community corrections order, disqualified from driving for nine months and fined $750.
Pottery Estate man Carl John Hutchison, 31, was fined $400 and disqualified for three months for driving while suspended. He was pulled over in South Bowenfels on May 15. He was also fined $280 for exceeding the 80km/h speed limit by more than 10km/h.
Taking without asking
A Portland man was found guilty of entering a dwelling with intent to steal, taking a vehicle without permission and driving unlicensed in Lithgow Local Court on July 4.
The court heard Zac McCann, 23, entered a Wallerawang home he knew would be empty after 3pm on September 29 last year, turning on lights and the tv.
Taking a set of keys, he took an unregistered Holden Captiva from the location and drove it to Portland.
He was placed on an 18 month community corrections order, ordered to carry out 75 hours of community service and fined $250 for the offences.
McCann was also found guilty of destroying property during a separate incident in Potland on January 26 this year.
He was fined $300 for smashing a Ninja Turtle snow globe and a further $200 for behaving in an offensive manner in public. Police were contacted after he was seen smashing and throwing items in the yard and then abusing the resident in view of witnesses.
