The award will be presented on Saturday, August 17 at 2 pm at the Lithgow and District Family History Society's Resource Centre at 43 Tank Street, Lithgow.
Yvonne Jenkins was the society's convenor and president for many years. A talented artist and author, Yvonne inspired many members to write the stories of their ancestors as well as their own stories and the award is held annually in her honour.
Yvonne's aim was that we all record the family stories before they are lost forever.
Yvonne enjoyed collecting the family stories and had recorded many over the years. Her book 'Bowenfels, People Places, Past and Present' was the last of many books which she authored and illustrated over thirty years.
Society President Eleanor Martin often comments that "Genealogy differs from family history in that names, dates and places do not tell the whole story; they are just the bare bones. The family stories make the skeletons dance".
Before the presentation of the award Jan Saundercock will present a talk titled 'Community Challenge. Family Tragedy. The Pneumonic Influenza Epidemic Lithgow 1919'.
Afternoon tea will be served following the presentation of the award.
Please RSVP for catering purposes by Friday, August 9 by email to secretary.ldfhs@gmail.com, or by telephone 6353 1089 during opening hours on Tuesdays 6pm to 9pm or Fridays 11am to 4pm.
