The recent release of the 20 centimetre tagged trout in Lake Wallace and Lake Lyell is the first of its kind in the Lithgow area as part of the DPI Fisheries Trout Strategy for sustainable trout waterways for recreational fishing.
"The release of tagged trout are in order to combat the devastating affects of Redfin by allowing anglers to catch and release a tagged trout," secretary of the Wallerawang branch of the Central Acclimatisation Society, Ray Tang said.
Anglers should report the length, size, location and their details to the DPI over the next few years and in return for this data each and every tagged fish record will receive a highly collectible 'Oar gee' fishing lure.
According to Mr Tang, the study will provide the DPI valuable data over the next few years to learn if the release of relatively smaller numbers of larger sized fish has a higher success rate in comparison to the release of larger numbers of smaller fingerling sized fish in Redfin infested water ways.
