Secretary of the Wallerawang branch of the Central Acclimatisation Society, Ray Tang said it was a great afternoon spent with the DPI Fisheries.
The DPI public forum included presentations from DPI Senior Inland Fisheries Manager Cameron Westaway and DPI Fisheries Scientist Dr Nathan Miles openly providing information on enhancements to hatcheries, stocking, fish migration, habitat condition monitoring, management arrangements and DPI/angler communication.
"This public forum also included electrofishing technique demonstrations by DPI staff, underwater fish movement monitoring camera display, and the first ever tagged trout release in Wallerawang's own Lake Wallace," Tang said.

In the coming months 2150 tagged rainbow trout between 150 and 250 millimetres will be released at the following sites:
- Lake Wallace: 500
- Lake Lyell: 500
- Oberon Dam: 1000
- Fish River: 150
Mr Tang said these tagged trout were deliberately grown out and tagged to allow a citizen science study.
"It's set to find out if the stocking of larger trout approximately 15 centimetres and larger can help defend the fight against the now prevalent Redfin and provide a sustainable recreational fishing future," he said.
Each fish tag has DPI contact details and a specific number which is used to track the fish's growth rate, survival rate and movements.
It is advised to catch and release the fish after obtaining details on fish length, weight and when it was landed.
Mr Tang said if anyone who participated in the clinic would like to provide feedback about the workshops or if you have questions on the Trout Strategy Snapshot feel free to email fish.stocking@dpi.nsw.gov.au.
