The Rotary Clubs of upper Blue Mountains held the event which helps to encourage a sense of community pride among individuals and their achievements.

Ms Jensen was nominated for the award for her position as nurse unit manager of the Critical Care Hub at Lithgow Hospital. Currently she is on a secondment in Nepean Hospital for 12 months.

She said she felt very humbled and honoured to have received the Rotary Pride of Workmanship award.

"It is a wonderful feeling to know that I have made such an impact on the care of patients and their families," she said.

Ms Jensen has been nursing in several different roles since 1991 and has loved working in the emergency department.

"The best part about being a nurse is being able to help people when they are normally feeling very vulnerable and unwell, it's such a rewarding job to be able to positively influence someones journey throughout their hospital experience," she said.

She said working in the emergency department had been her passion since day one and every day was different.

"It's so varied, you need to be a jack of all trades," she said.

Ms Jensen said some days the outcomes were not always positive and could be quite tragic but she was there to support families and carers as part of her role.

"It's a really important part of my job and it's nice to be recognised by these people who also nominated me for the award," she said.

She also said she loved working in small communities like Lithgow and getting to know everyone.

"You get to meet so many people and the team you work with become like family to you," she said.

Ms Jensen thanked the Rotary Club of Blackheath for her award and also for the work they do.

"They make this world a better place," she said.
