The Geographical Names Board is calling for public comment on a proposal to rename Blackfellows Hand Rock as Maiyingu Marragu, the local Aboriginal name for the rock.

Maiyingu Marragu, a Wiradjuri name meaning 'hands', is a significant rock feature, located approximately 1.7km north east of the intersection of Wolgan Road and Baal Bone Trail near Lidsdale.
The site includes rock shelters and stencil-art and holds special meaning for the Aboriginal community.
Chair of the Geographical Names Board, Narelle Underwood said the board is committed to reawakening Aboriginal place names.
"This supports recognition and revival of Aboriginal languages," Mrs Underwood said.

The Board is encouraging community comment before it considers the proposal.
"We want to make sure everyone has an opportunity to provide their feedback on the proposed name," Mrs Underwood said.
Details of the proposal can be viewed, and submissions lodged on the Geographical Names Board's website at www.gnb.nsw.gov.au.
Alternatively written submissions may be lodged with the Secretary, Geographical Names Board, 346 Panorama Ave, Bathurst, NSW, 2795.
The closing date for submissions is Sunday, June 30.
