Draw May 21 at Club Lithgow Jiggers versus Red Sox and at The Workies Tall Timbers versus Pockets and Helmets versus Miscues.
With two weeks left of the competition there are two games that are very interesting to watch and this Tuesday Jiggers play Red Sox. With Jiggers beating the first placed team Pockets 5 - 2 they have moved within four points of Red Sox and that game could determine the wooden spoon. The other game of interest in the last week of comp the two frontrunners will be playing off for the Minor Premiership when Miscues host Pockets. This week Miscues have moved two points in front of Pockets so it is coming down the wire. Miscues defeated Red Sox 5 - 2 and Helmets defeated Tall Timbers 5 - 2.
Williams and Sons Butchery Pockets v Welch's Highway Smash Repairs Jiggers:
Dane Barrington versus Wayne Lewis: Barrington won six of his first seven games and since then has lost all games since and Lewis finally got back on track last week so hopefully he was going to keep this going. It soon became apparent that Lewis was back in full swing playing some very good shots. Barrington was also playing some good shots though when it came to the big points he went missing. Lewis cruised to win 68 - 37.
Steve Hewitt versus Katherine Sutton: Hewitt is cruising winning ten games from 15 and Sutton is still struggling with her new sport though she has vastly improved though not winning as yet which doesn't matter. They played each other in the first round where Hewitt was an easy winner 114 - 31. This time Sutton had a 26 point start and was using her handicap well and she even potted seven points in one go. Hewitt did slowly pull back the deficit as expected of which a 12 break helped him and he went on to win 82 - 60.
Robert Bender versus Sharnie Roberts: Bender has hit form the back end of the comp winning his last 5 games and Roberts in her first comp has been playing to her best actually pulling off three wins already. Bender had to give 19 start and he kicked off the chase potting some good balls whilst Roberts was just doing enough to keep the score board ticking over. In the long run this did work as they came onto the colours Roberts just did enough to beat a fast finishing Bender 53 - 49.
Shane Eagle versus Dylan Ford: Eagle is his teams captain and has been leading by example winning 12 of his 17 games and Ford playing his first comp has actually surprised himself in winning two games and is improving. The advantage Ford had is the 40 start he had and Eagle does not like chasing big leads. The start did rattle Eagle as he was not as fluent with his shots as usual and Ford was playing out of skin. This was definitely Fords best game to date as he kept potting the small scores and pulled off an upset beating Eagle 84 - 47.
Brad Preston versus Cassandra Holyoake: Preston is travelling at 50 per cent win/loss and Holyoake is still finding her feet playing on the bigger tables as she is used to pool tables. An interesting matchup due to Preston was an employee of Holyoake's at one stage. Preston chased the 24 points start fairly easily though Holyoake was putting a good effort to keep in front. Once Preston took the lead he was not going to be headed as he won 79 - 53 and a good effort from Holyoake.
Lawrence Creasy versus Troy Clarke: Creasy has won six games from 17 and not going well and Clarke has been going well in winning nine out of his 13. Creasy had one of his bad games as nothing went right and there were a lot mistakes made and Clarke was on from the first shot. Clarke was just too good in winning 71 - 28 and Creasy offered nothing. The players of the match were Dylan Ford and Brad Preston.
Hunter Mining Methods Miscues versus C & W Printing Red Sox:
Kevin Slaven versus Leo Keeley: An interesting game this as both take their time and Slaven is prone to making a lot of mistakes. Keeley plays every ball on its merit and if he cannot pot one he will play a lot of safety. Slaven was defending a 25 point lead by potting some easy shots and Keeley was doing the hard work slowly catching him. Keeley did very well and was in a position to win when Slaven pulled the rug from under him to scrape home 53 - 52.
Brian Nightingale versus Trevor Cameron: Nightingale is having very little table time this comp as he has only played three games all losses. Cameron has won two games then lost four and has won his last two so according to his form was due for a loss. Nightingale had a 34 start and surprisingly was playing well so his trip to Specsavers must have worked. Cameron was doing well and was catching Nightingale with some good play but it wasn't going to be enough. Nightingale played his best game this comp as he cruised to win 77 - 55 finally getting out of his nudie run.
Matt Tattersall versus Peter Warner: Two players with contrasting styles with Tattersall playing an open style with not much safety and Warner who is very meticulous with his shots relies heavily on safety. Tattersall had a 19 start and was very quickly in the groove as he went about extending that lead. Tattersall had two breaks of 23 and 18 which in the long run too much for Warner. Warner to his credit as usual never gave up but it was all Tattersall as he won 77 - 38.
Col Tattersall versus Jeff Stait: Last round these two played and then Stait won by four points but he had to chase 55 points from the start. Both have won eight games so both are in form so this was set up as a good matchup even though Tattersall had a 54 start. Stait started out the chase in earnest and was potting well and playing safe making it hard for Tattersall to get a shot in. When Tattersall could get a shot he played very well and was accumulating points. Stait came home with a wet sail and once he took the lead he was not going to denied as he won 91 - 81 in a high scoring game.
Brain Bonus versus Rod Denley: Bonus has only played five games this comp with two wins and Denley has played eight with one win and he was lucky on that occasion. Bonus was not playing at his best though he was trying hard and to everyone's surprise Denley finally found some form and indeed was playing well. Denley ended up winning 71 - 44 and was on his way to be swabbed.
Jeff Martin versus Tom Gaynor: Marin has not been at his best and Gaynor only starting playing well from the midway point of the comp. They played each other in the last round then it was Gaynor who won by 24. Martin remembered that and was better prepared as he went about dissecting Gaynor's games. This was almost the longest game in history but it was Martin who ground out a 61 - 30 win finding retribution. The players of the match were Matt Tattersall and Rod Denley.
Lithgow Valley Storage Helmets versus Carpet One Tall Timbers:
Ian Miles versus Michael McCosker: Miles has been going alright this comp winning more than losing and McCosker once he has his inner demons under control he plays a good game. This was a very close until the end with neither really getting the upper hand and it was McCosker who was won 61 - 55.
Dallas Thurlow versus Michael Andrews: Thurlow is playing above himself this comp and is giving it a red hot go and Andrews is opposite struggling with two wins to his name. A very entertaining game by both players as all the shots was on display with Andrews playing with more safety. Thurlow did well to maintain the lead throughout as he went on to win 74 - 54.
Logan Spice versus Michael Tonkin: Spice is having an average comp though when he wins he does play well and Tonkin three times already this comp has scored more than 100 points in each of these games. Spice had a 42 start which may not be enough as Tonkin four times in this comp has had breaks of over 20 points. Spice has developed a good safety game over the years and he would need this to try and keep Tonkin tied up. Both played very well and luckily Spice was doing all the right things as he was keeping Tonkin busy with safety so much that Tonkin could not get into rhythm. Spice was good enough to maintain the lead to win 86 - 57.
Dillon McBey versus Howie Fisher: Both players have very similar stats as McBey has won ten games and lost four and Fisher has won ten games and lost three. They are so close that when they played each other last round McBey scraped home by a mere point. Both played well and as their last effort the game came right down to the wire. It was less than a black ball result again as McBey won 49 - 45.
Ian Bulkeley versus Aaron Vandermeer: Bulkeley is having a good comp from about the midway point and Vandermeer had a good run midway but has been on a treadmill since going nowhere. Bulkeley made short work of the 24 points start Vandermeer had, with some very good potting. Vandermeer again was not at his best as he missed some easy shots plus Bulkeley's safety was frustrating him. Bulkeley put another very good effort in to win 71 -45.
Robert Farnsworth versus Bill Cook: Farnsworth won his last two games but he also has lost eight games which is a pointer to his form this comp and Cook form is seven wins six losses. Farnsworth started the chase with confidence but started to slow down the longer the game went. Cook on the other hand played some good shots but also there was a lot of luck that helped him. Cook went on the rampage winning 72 - 48 adding to Farnsworth's woes. The players of the match were Dallas Thurlow and Bill Cook.
Point score: Miscues 74, Pockets 72, Helmets 66, Tall Timbres 62, Red Sox 54, Jiggers 50
