More than 5000 people had already cast their votes at Lithgow's pre poll centre on Main Street heading into the election on Saturday, May 18.

Speaking at Cooerwull Public School's polling booth at midday, Calare MP Andrew Gee said he believed the pre poll process would be looked at following the election.

"I think it's generally a good idea, but it's very hard on volunteers, especially in areas which had three weeks of pre polling," Mr Gee said.

"I've had feedback that people would like to see it run for a uniform two weeks.

"The effect is many booths are a lot quieter today than they would be otherwise. It's changed the dynamic a little bit of the election campaign."

Election fatigue may have been a factor, he said, with the federal poll following so hard on the heels of the State Election.

"Some people certainly wanted to get it out of the way, so they didn't have to think about it any more," he said.

The barbecues and cake sales at many of the booths continued to tick along, with people calling in on their way home from junior sport, work and other commitments to grab a snag or a bacon and egg roll regardless of whether they had voted or not.
