The Lazers went in still without the injured Matt Hughes and Fletcher Swift while American import Michael Johnson was unavailable for medical reasons.
Lazer's starters, Michael Cox, Adam Marjoram, Kobe Hunter, Hayden Cox and Mitchell Brain, held the Hawks in the first quarter before an Illawarra three-pointer with a minute remaining saw the home side go ahead to stay at 23-20.
A 12-0 run for the Hawks in the middle of the second period saw them blow the score out from 32-29 to 44-29 and they never looked back with the halftime score standing at 48-35.
Illawarra's tall timbers were dominating the boards at both ends and the Lazer's bench players in Caleb Fitzpatrick, Zeke Evans, Austyn Lincoln and Michael Brooks couldn't turn the tide as the locals increased their margin to a safe twenty-nine point gap at 77-48.
Starved of possession from the opposition's better rebounding and their own wayward passing, the Lithgow side could only manage eight points in the final stanza, finishing with their lowest total of the season as the Hawks prevailed 104-56.
Illawarra's best were Andrew Gray and Jarrod Sorenson both with 16 points, while Kieren Corbyn contributed 14.
The Lazers are back home this Saturday afternoon and will try to get their season back on track against the Queanbeyan Yowies. Tip-off is at 4pm.
