What century is Andrew Gee living in? Certainly not the 21st.
I've just read his 12 page tax-payer funded newsletter entitled "Your country your voice" and seen glossy pictures of smiling Andrew and grateful constituents who have received grants from the federal government under his stewardship. They reminded me of the optimistic 1960s.
The optimism of the 1960s is long past, Mr Gee. Lithgow is most likely going to lose jobs as coal becomes a less favoured source of power, as the mines close and the power stations wind down.
What of our community then?
Do any of the glossy pictures involve the creation of jobs in this area? Well, there is mention of a federal department moving to Orange. But that's it.
In the 12 pages was there any mention of climate change, of the future we that we'll be leaving to our grandchildren if nothing is done to stave off the inevitable effects of human induced changes to our planet? Not a word.
Wake up, Mr Gee! The Nationals are supposed to represent regional Australia. They're not doing a great job of it.
Our farmers know that climate change is an important issue - they live with it every day. Our workers know that their jobs are under threat and would like to see a government that cares enough to have a plan for the transition to renewable energy and to new industries .
Bill Shorten and the Labor Party have a plan. The Coalition ls still living in the past.
