Signatures were collected to urge Lithgow City Council to action on upgrading the access road to Newnes and its most famous attraction, the Glowworm Tunnel. After travelling the equally famously potholed track to get to the site, there was no shortage of agreement.
This week, Thomas Ebersoll from Newnes Hotel Cabins lodged a 360 signature petition to Lithgow City Council, signed by visitors.
"Over the Easter holidays we had 360 visitors who were appalled by the standard of the 9km unsealed stretch of Wolgan Road," Mr Ebersoll wrote.
"This flies in the eyes of the present marketing campaign trying to promote Lithgow as a tourism destination."
Work began to grade the dirt section of the road on Thursday, May 9, with work expected to be carried out over the coming seven days (weather permitting).
"I know Glowworm Tunnel Road, roads in the Capertee Valley and other gravel roads in the Lithgow area are in a similar state of neglect," Mr Ebersoll said.
"I urge Lithgow City Council to maintain proper access to our fantastic tourism destinations."
