An enjoyable night was had by Lithgow and surrounding area members, Lithgow mayor Ray Thompson and former Lithgow Quota members.
Inner Wheel began in 1958 with a visit from chairman Gwen Davies of district 27 who suggested the formation of an Inner Wheel Club in Lithgow as she was moving here.
As a result the club was charted on May 1 in 1959 and Gwen was the president.
Inner Wheel has always been about friendship and service to the community. Members often met in homes in the evening, with over 50 in attendance sometimes. Now members meet in the daytime and we also get together on the first Friday of each month at the Lithgow Workies.
Lithgow's Inner Wheel has produced some amazing women over the 60 years who have gone all the way to the top. Our charter president Gwen was the first Australian to be elected as an international president in 1975.
Gwen Davies, Maude Genders and Irene Johnson all became Inner Wheel Australian presidents and Win Bailey was the Inner Wheel Australia secretary when Irene Johnson was president.
The club also had nine district chairman and one current member Kaye Preema on district who is also junior vice chairman for 2019 and 2020.
