Work will begin on changes to accommodate the new inner city fleet on Monday, May 13, and continue until June 14.
The changes will include extensions to the western end of the platform by 12m, re-positioning rail tracks, a drainage upgrade and the installation of more CCTV and lighting. The Lithgow station was built in its current position in 1925 and has been upgraded throughout its history, including a substantial addition in the early 1990s, when it was modified to allow for a bus and coach interchange on Railway Parade. The Hayley Street footbridge was built at this time.
The new trains, which will be replacing the V-Sets, will be rolled out in 2020.

Transport for NSW stated the car parks would be temporarily removed, and the bus stop on Railway Parade made shorter, as part of the works to help ensure worker safety.
The works at Lithgow's station are part of a raft of changes to the line, including modifications to the ten tunnels between Lithgow and Mount Victoria, which will need to occur before the delivery of the new trains, which were built in South Korea.
"We are modifying the existing rail infrastructure at a number of stations along the Blue Mountains Line to support the introduction of improved technology on board the New Intercity Fleet," a Transport for NSW spokesperson said.
"To minimise the impact on the community, the vast majority of this work will be completed during track work and shutdown periods which have already been scheduled when alternative transport arrangements, like buses, are already in place."
People using the trains during this period have been urged to check for disruptions and delays ahead of their travel time at transportnsw.info.
