THE ongoing theft of copper wire in the Lithgow area has left police officers calling for help from the public.

Officers attached to the Chifley Police District say various items have been stolen during the past few months.
"Lithgow Police are appealing for public assistance in relation to the theft of copper wire and off cuts from Oakey Park Substation on Chifley Road and the Zig Zag Railway Station," officers said in a statement.
Police said they would like to speak to a man spotted on CCTV in relation to a theft at Oakey Park on April 5.
Officers said there was a significant safety risk for anyone entering substation areas.
"Police also have safety concerns as wires in the substation have 11,000 volts running through them," he said.
