The fire is expected to last two to three days and will be visible from Sunny Corner, Yetholme, Kirkconnell and Walang.
NPWS stated this is the second stage of a prescribed burn that began in May 2018. It was not able to be completed due to a snow fall.
"The prescribed burn is being conducted to generally maintain the floristic and structural diversity of vegetation communities in an area currently subject to an adverse (long unburnt) fire regime," the service stated.
The burn aims to reduce the fuel load in the area.
