Upon leaving school he followed in the footsteps of his dad becoming a butcher at Tom Nugent's Butcher Shop in Portland, he followed up with a stint at Bathurst, before joining forces with his dad once again, with the renowned Eves Butchery Portland, which operated for a total of 35 years, his dear sister Shirley also assisted and following the passing of his dad he continued the business and was also joined by son Craig.
Following the sale of the business Harold continued butchering in Bathurst until his retirement.
Harold resided in Bathurst with his dear wife Kerry and raising the family.
Harold was a keen sportsman and enjoyed most sports, playing rugby league with the Portland Colts, he was an avid Manly Sea Eagles supporter.
In business Harold was always ever ready to assist organisations and followed community affairs with great interest, he was always pleasant, run a very efficient business, would go out of his way to assist people and his support certainly went beyond the call of duty on many occasions. He was certainly dedicated to the task, travelling from his home in Bathurst to Portland on a daily basis.
He was well respected by all those who had the pleasure of being associated with him. Sadly illness restricted his retirement, but he was never one to complain and continued on with life enjoying activities surrounded by his loving family.
