According to council's chief financial and information officer Ross Gurney the depot repairs were "make safe works" which would be covered by council's insurance policies.
"The works include stabilising the brick works, demolishing loose bricks and windows and generally cleaning up the site so that it is safe," he said.
Council's director of infrastructure services Jonathon Edgecombe said the building was old and no longer built for its purpose.
"The best solution at the moment is the priority to make it safe, which is happening now."

Council staff were also considering rebuilding a store depot on the site, however staff would report to council once all options were considered and the cost was estimated.
"The future of the building is still in process, council is working on a new building but that may or may not happen, depending on funding," Mr Edgecombe said.
Mr Gurney said it was safe to say the repair works would be completed in a matter of weeks.
"The work involved with making the site safe and clearing the rubble isn't extensive.
"The work required a power shutdown which Endeavour Energy needed two to four weeks notice prior to the power shutdown," he said.
