"Mr K", as he was fondly known to students and staff, was principal of Oberon Public for 15 years until April 2013, when he moved on to take up the principal position at West Bathurst Public School.
In an interview with the Oberon Review in 2013, Mr Kowalski said he had seen about 650 students graduate into high school and he was then seeing the next generation coming through.
Mr Kowalski said it was a wonderful experience to be part of the Oberon community.
He said it was a very special place and Oberon Public School was a wonderful facility and the staff had been a pleasure to work with.
Mr Kowalski thanked the community for teaching him to be a good principal.
He said Oberon Public was a wonderful family school and it operated like a family.
"That was my aim and that tone has continued, with the help of staff and community members," Mr Kowalski told the Review at the time as he prepared for his next role.
He was a fair and passionate man and a friend to many. It's been a sad week at the school as many of the staff still had regular contact with Stan.
Oberon Public School's relieving principal, Jocelyn Armstrong, said she started working at Oberon Public in 1992 and Mr Kowalksi started in 1998.
"He was admired by everyone who worked with him," she said.
"He was a fair and passionate man and a friend to many.
"It's been a sad week at the school as many of the staff still had regular contact with Stan.
"It's an honour his family has chosen Stan's beloved Oberon Public School to say goodbye."
Mr Kowalski, aged 61, passed away on March 17, 2019.
He will be farewelled at a service of thanksgiving at the Oberon Public School hall at 15 Dart Street, Oberon (opposite the RSL) this Saturday, March 23 at 11am.
