Choking
An Oberon man who was filmed choking his girlfriend has been fined $500, placed on a two year Community Corrections Order and ordered to undertake 100 hours of community service.
The 21-year-old, who has since relocated, was charged with assault and intentionally choking a person after an incident at Oberon.
The court heard the young man's girlfriend filmed an argument, during which he picked up his girlfriend's daughter by the back of the shirt and used this grip to carry her from the room as she cried in pain and distress. This was the basis for the assault charge.
He then grabbed his girlfriend from behind and wrapped his arm around her throat, lifting her up for a few seconds so she could not breathe. She fled the house with the child.
