“The Royal Commission in Aged Care revealed some personal care workers are working in aged care facilities with just two weeks training, or having done an online course,” Mr May said.
“This is just unbelievable.
“If you need three years training to look after a toddler, why do we leave our elderly in such unsafe hands?”
Mr May said, in 2017, Orange MP Phil Donato introduced the Public Health Amendment (Registered Nurses in Nursing Homes) Bill 2016.
“If passed, the Bill would have legislated Registered Nurses in nursing homes and aged care facilities 24/7 to provide around the clock clinical care to our most vulnerable,” Mr May said.
“Sadly, the Liberals and Nationals voted against it because they thought it would cost too much.
“Obviously, our elderly aren’t as important as Sydney stadiums."
