The most dominant golfer over the past six months Bill Oldfield again served notice that he will be the man to beat for the Lithgow Golf Club Championship title which gets underway this weekend with 18 holes on Saturday and Sunday with the 72 hole event ending the following weekend.
Oldfield has consistently shot under par each week and again on Saturday tore up the course to post a six under par 66.
This was a great score considering that there were no preferred lies off the fairways making for some tough shots.
Defending champion Andrew Burton is a tough competitor and plays the big events well. He can’t be counted out along with a number of other low markers.
There will be some great tussles in all three grades which should be extremely interesting.
Saturday’s event was a two ball stableford with the winners being the pairing of Michael Bennett and Max McCann on 48 points counting out Neville Kerrison and Greg Hunter who also returned 48 points.
There was a single event held in conjunction with the winner Ben Futcher playing off 22 putting it all together to amass 43 points.
Best scores in each grade were: A grade Bill Oldfield 66, B grade Geoff Brooks 81 and C grade John Murnane 91.
Nearest to the pins were Nev Kerrison, Geoff Brooks, Geoff Clarke, Greg Jackson and Ben Oldfield.
Balls in the ball competition went to pairings with 45 points ocb and better.
Friday nine hole comp:
Winner Riley Allan 29 points.
Ball winners Darcy Allan, Brandon Lloyd and Trevor Cameron.
