While its programs have already been rolled out into high schools in the area, Marathon Health group manager of headspace services Peter Rohr said the completion of the Main Street building was the final missing puzzle piece.
“We have recruited an amazing team, and we’re working with fantastic partners and community organisations. We envisage this centre to be a hub of youth wellbeing, tailored to meet the needs of the Lithgow community.”
The construction is being overseen by Marathon Health and Wentworth Healthcare, provider of the Nepean Blue Mountains Primary Health Network.
Federal Member for Calare, Andrew Gee said the Lithgow community had "suffered immense pain and anguish" in tragic cases of local people taking their own lives.
“Bolstering mental health services for Lithgow has been a top priority for me and the entire community and after taking this issue to the Health Minister, I’m very pleased that the Federal Government has responded to the needs of the Lithgow area with this new headspace service," he said.
“I believe it will make a real difference to the lives of young people in the district. A service like this can save lives.”
Services are expected to roll out from the new centre from the beginning of April.
