Approximately 350 works were entered into the show, which was slightly down on previous years.
There were 56 prize entries for this years' Portland Art Prize, sponsored by The Foundations.
The night saw 20 new artists put in their works, from both the local area and out of town.
The Ron Bidwell first prize was awarded to Annie Joseph, with Helen Hudson securing the Mary Hampton second prize for her painting Dry Pickings Lightning Ridge.
On Thursday, February 28, there was a record 23 paintings sold to the sponsors who got the first look at the exhibition.
Seven of those paintings sold belonged to featured artist Guenter Barth who said it was an honour to be at the exhibition.
"It really lifts you up when people like your work, it's an incredible feeling," Mr Barth said.
According to Mr Barth is takes about two weeks to complete his paintings, while some may go quickly and others take a little longer.
"We love photography, so we go to all the places I paint and do it that way," he said.
Students from Portland Central also had their works on show, with some students getting a surprise to find their work displayed.

Rose Coleman had come to the art show to look at the works, only to get a surprise to find two of her works hanging up.
"I didn't know it was going to be put in, but it's exciting," she said.
Miss Coleman worked on her art over a number of weeks in art class, and is already beginning to work on some projects for the Lithgow Show.
Rose's mother Cass Coleman was very excited to see her daughter's works hanging up in the exhibition.
"It is good for her self confidence to do her art and it gives her an opportunity to express herself," she said.
