It's safe to say that Dudley and Fay King know a thing or two about love after nearly 70 years of marriage.

The 90-year-old love birds were wed on December 17, 1949 at Saint Paul's Church of England in Lithgow.

"I remember that day very clearly and I wouldn't have changed a thing," Fay said.

Fay, being two months older than Dudley, also said she remembered not being able to get married to him until he turned 21.

"It's quite funny looking back on it but we waited until he turned 21 in November and then got married in December. My mother-in-law didn't want to let him go just yet," she laughed.

Dudley said from when he first met Fay to this day, he falls in love over and over again with the lady in front of him.

"I fell in love with her, she makes me laugh, makes me cry but we've been pretty lucky," he said.

Fay said it was much the same for her.

"It's give and take with everything in marriage, if you want to stay together and you love that person and that's the case for us," she said.

The two sweethearts said the key to lasting love and life was to be active.

"We're both very sport minded, we've played all our lives, I've done hockey, tennis, squash, gave that up and now I've played bowls for the last 32 years," Fay said.

She also laughed and said Dudley was a bit of a widow when she was away at bowls.

Dudley said the two of them were healthy and happy and a bit lucky.

"We've got a few minor problems but other than that we are so lucky to be 90 and still here enjoying life, I guess we are just an exception," he said.

Together they have two daughters who have blessed them with a big family and surrounded them with love.

"It's fairly hard to realise it's been nearly 70 years together, we were occupied and now we're getting photos of our grandchildren graduating university and doing all these great things.

"It's great to be around all of that, we're privileged to watch everyone grow up," Fay said.

"Life is unfair a lot of the times, a lot of people don't get the same opportunity but it's been so good to us, we've had a great time and still are," Dudley said.

Dudley also said times were different now compared to when he was younger but he wouldn't change a thing.

"I've got no complaints, we've had our ups and downs and struggled when we were younger not having things we wanted but that's changed," he said.

With Valentine's Day around the corner the couple planned on going out for dinner but nothing too special.

"We haven't really planned anything yet but as long as we've got each other then we've got it all, and that's the main thing," Fay said.

"No one goes through anything perfect, but we're pretty close, it's been a great life," Dudley said.
