Jai went along to the try outs with fellow St Patrick’s Primary student, Year 5's Archie Morris.
Year 5 and 6 students were part of the trial and competition was fierce among the 50 competing for just 10 places.
Archie, who plays for the Lithgow Lasers Under 12’s, was eliminated in his bid for a place against the older competitors.

Jai progressed through each round as numbers were whittled down to 20, then 14, and then to the final 10.
Proud dad Scott, who doubles as his Lithgow Lazers Under 14’s coach, said Jai was very excited by his selection.
“He just loves his basketball,” he said.
Jai will go on to represent the Polding district at the PSSA carnival in Maitland in May, which will pit two teams from within the Catholic system with regional public school teams.
