The film is called ‘The Bookshop’ (2017, PG) and stars Emily Mortimer, Bill Nighy and Patricia Clarkson.
It is based on Penelope Fitzgerald’s novel of the same name and is set in 1959.
The film follows Florence Green, a free spirited widow who puts grief behind her and risks it all to open a bookshop. The first such shop is in the sleepy seaside town of Hardborough in England where she opens up the minds of the narrow-minded townsfolk with some of her books she stocks and shocks some of the less prosperous shopkeepers and the doyenne of the local arts scene.
The movie was chosen for the International Berlinale Special Gala and is said to be a delight for book lovers.
’The Bookshop’ will screen on Sunday, January 20 at 2.00pm.
