WITH a continuing heatwave across the region, Chifley police have issued a warning for people to take extreme care in the heat.

The mercury is expected to soar to around 40 degrees on Wednesday and Thursday.
Chifley Police District Commander Superintendent Paul McDonald urged the community to look after others who may be more vulnerable to the heat.
“It is particularly important that you look after those that may need assistance be that young children, elderly, vulnerable persons and pets,” he said.
“I would remind everyone too that it is an offence to leave anyone who may not be capable of caring for themselves including children, other vulnerable persons and pets in a vehicle, even for a short period.
“In this type of weather conditions the heat inside the vehicle can rise rapidly.”
Supt McDonald said while fines up to $5500 apply, the consequences to those left in the vehicle are dire and could result in severe injuries or worse.
“Keep in touch with family and others you know who may feel the effects more than others to make sure they are OK,” he said.
