Currently both cemeteries have grass growing over the headstones, plots and there are overgrown weeds around the graves.
Resident Rhiannon Rowlandson said her sister went out to go and pay a visit to her brother at the Pipers Flat cemetery and was disgusted and disappointed at the state of the graves.
“The council who we trust to take care of our dearly departed have not at all done their job properly,” she said.
Ms Rowlandson said they could see where contractors had gone around on a ride on lawn mower instead of going around each individual grave sight.
“The departed and their families deserve so much better than this poor excuse for council work,” she said.
“The grass is growing over most of them and for family’s who don’t have the funds to put a headstone on their loved ones have grass covering the entire site.”
Lithgow City Council Executive manager of operation Jonathon Edgecombe said council is aware of the state of the cemeteries.
“We are aware of the unfortunate conditions the cemeteries find themselves in, our outdoor staff have been extremely busy with the clean up of the storm damage,” he said.

Mr Edgecombe said the council has gone through a tender process for a responsible weed contractor.
“We have been successful in getting a contractor who can work efficiently and for the best possible cost to service the area,” he said.
According to Mr Edgecombe the contractor will work on Lithgow cemetery early this week for two days before visiting Wallerawang and Portland.
“They will be cleaning up the entire area, weather permitting,” he said.
“We are dissapointed it has taken this long.”
Mr Edgecombe said that these contractors will keep up with it four times a year.
“We can get them to come out if there are extra services required during high growth periods, like at the moment with it being sunny during the day and raining at night,” he said.
