After a successful launch in 2017, the Lake Wallace New Years Eve Fireworks are back again. Hosted by the Wallerwang Lidsdale Progress Association (WLPA), the fireworks display began after local woman Linda Cluff spent New Years away from home and suggested a community event to involve everyone, with Lake Wallace viewed as an ideal venue.

WLPA secretary and treasurer, Ros Francis, said the inaugural event was better than they could of hoped. “We had double the crowd that we were expecting and ran out of food before the end of the night given the event was so popular,” she said. There were also suggestion notes available for people to fill out and Ros said the feedback was incredible. “Those who attended really loved it, especially given it was such a family friendly atmosphere”.
While everyone is encouraged to bring a blanket and picnic basket, there will plenty of food and drinks on offer. The Wallerwang Baseball Club and Portland Scouts will be running barbecues to raise funds, while the Men’s Shed will have a hot dog stand. Big Daddy’s Pizza will be returning along with two Thai food stalls and three coffee vans to help feed the hungry crowd.
We have taken a lot of suggestions on board this year to make the night bigger and better.
- Ros Francis, Secretary/ Treasurer WLPA
There will be 20 market stalls with something on offer for everyone, while Ros said the younger visitors will also have plenty to do. “There will be lots of rides, a rock climbing wall, jumping castles, face painting and we also have a petting zoo this year,” she said. “There will also be dragon boating displays on the lake with people invited to try their hand at rowing or just enjoy a paddle across the water”.

Entertainment will be provided by local duo Momentum who have just released their debut album “Subtitles”. Ros said it was great to have Momentum back again this year thanking them along with everyone who has got behind the event. “A big thank you has to go to all of our sponsors and our volunteers who make these wonderful community based events possible”.
The New Years Eve celebrations begin at 4.30pm, with the fireworks lighting up the skies at 9.00pm. The event is free for everyone with plenty of parking available.
