Last week Lithgow City Council’s leadership team expressed its disappointment in a lack of support from the Department of Premier and Cabinet over a bid to have some of the station infrastructure retained. 

It was their opinion that the site was worth more to future investors with some of the buildings and associated infrastructure in place. 

Site owner EnergyAustralia has previously stated that it intends to go ahead with demolition.

Labor MLC Adam Searle said a NSW Labor Government would actively engage council, the community and the owner to ensure the Wallerawang Power Station was repurposed, rather than demolished.

“This is a key economic asset for the community, which should be used to build opportunities for employment,” he said.
