LOCAL organisations have been coming together in the true spirit of Christmas to ensure that families in difficult circumstances can share in the festive season.

At the weekend the district’s motorcycle fraternity got together for the 23rd annual toy organised by the Ulysses Club.
Once again the run was well supported by more than 50 riders taking part, led as usual from Portland to Lithgow by Santa himself, with a donation collection at Wallerawang along the way.

This year’s run ended at the Cooerwull School playground where gifts were handed over to representatives of St Vincent de Paul and Salvation Army who will coordinate distribution.
More individual cash donations were also received.
The support for these organisations was sorely needed.
It’s an unfortunate sign of the times that Vinnies and the Salvos between them this year have around 200 requests for children’s gift assistance as well as dozens of requests for Christmas food hampers.
